Employed with North Carolina Department of Correction as Assistant to the Secretary (1987-1989); Attorney in private practice in Ahoskie, North Carolina (1992-2000); Attorney in private practice in Rocky Mount, North Carolina (2000-2005); Attorney with The Valentine Law Firm, Nashville, North Carolina (2005-present). Practice generally has been in the area of civil litigation having represented clients in jury trials in 21 North Carolina counties as well as before the North Carolina Court of Appeals and Supreme Court.

Lewis Wardlaw Lamar



Lewis Wardlaw Lamar.
Born in Montgomery, Alabama (1936). Auburn University (B.A. 1959; M.A. 1969). Captain, United States Marines (1959-1962). Law school at Emory University (1966-1967) and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, (J.D. 1968). North Carolina State Bar (1968). Alabama Bar (1992).

Served as law clerk for Honorable Algernon L. Butler, Judge of the United States District Court. Received Distinguished Service Award from the North Carolina Bar Association in 1997. Member, North Carolina Bar Association, North Carolina State Bar and North Carolina Council of School Attorneys (President 1991-1992).

In his law practice, he has worked with various North Carolina school boards and community colleges. Primary areas of practice include education law, real property, civil litigation, personal injury, wills and estates.

Lewis W. Lamar, Jr


Lewis Wardlaw Lamar, Jr.
joined the firm in 1995 after graduating from the Campbell University School of Law. A native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Lewis graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High in 1986 and then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1990.

Lewis focuses mainly on local government and education law, civil litigation, small business incorporation, real estate transactions and traffic matters. He represents the Braswell Memorial Public Library in Rocky Mount, and, with his father, Wardlaw Lamar, also represents the Nash-Rocky Mount Board of Education.

In February 2008, Lewis was elected president of the Nash-Edgecombe Bar Association. This past summer, Lewis made a presentation to the North Carolina Council of School Attorneys Conference at Atlantic Beach, North Carolina on the subject of New Legal Challenges to Suspensions and Expulsions. In 2002, he was awarded Friend of the Year by the Friends of the Harold Cooley Library in Nashville, North Carolina. Prior to that, he served four terms on the board of the Tar River Kiwanis Club and two terms on the board of TCI (Tri-County Industries).

Lewis has been married for 9 years. He and his wife, Terri, have two daughters.

Ernie Murray


Ernie Murray is a native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He is a 1970 graduate of Rocky Mount Senior High School and earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1974. He was a public school teacher for 3 years in Nash and Guilford counties before going to law school. Ernie graduated from the Wake Forest University School of Law in 1980 where he served as Managing Editor of the Wake Forest Law Review. Following law school, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Joe Branch, Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court and has 25 years of legal experience. Besides local Bar groups, Ernie belongs to the North Carolina State Bar, the North Carolina Bar Association, the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.

Ernie resides in Rocky Mount with his wife Becky and his son Andrew. He served for 11 years on the Nash-Rocky Mount Board of Education and held the office of Chairman for five terms. He is a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Rocky Mount, which he has served as a deacon; is currently serving on the Parent’s Council of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics; and is a former member and chairman of the Braswell Library Board of Trustees.

His law practice mainly involves pursuing lawsuits on behalf of those who have been wronged, and defending those who have been sued, in the Superior Courts of Nash and surrounding counties, and prosecuting appeals to the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court. He handles cases primarily in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, will contests, business disputes, land condemnations and title disputes.

Bruce Daughtry


Bruce Daughtry.

Born Ahoskie, North Carolina Septemebr 30, 1966. Graduate of Campbell University, Buies Creek, North Carolina, Cum Laude (1989) (Batchelor of Business Administration) (Certificate of Trust Management), Graduate of Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law, Campbell University, Buies Creek, North Carolina (1993) (Juris Doctor).

Licensed by the North Carolina State Bar (1993-Present). Also licensed in the United States District Court, Eastern District of North Carolina.

Member of the North Carolina State Bar, North Carolina Bar Association, Nash-Edgecombe Bar, Seventh District Bar, North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys (Past President of the Young Lawyers Division). 

Primary area of practice: Civil Litigation.

Daughtry resides in Rocky Mount, North Carolina with wife, Cacky and two sons.
